Completed in time for Biola University’s 50th Anniversary celebration, the new Fine Arts Building at Bardwell Hall was ready to welcome students, faculty, and guests. With a 1,000 SF student gallery, the new space will allow students to showcase their projects and critique others. The newly renovated space includes individual student studio spaces, large studio spaces, faculty offices and studios, a photo lightroom and darkroom, an outdoor exhibition space, and a rooftop terrace.
This challenging project includes a two-story, Type V-B addition, the seismic retrofitting of the existing roof structure, and a build-out of the entire building. Building envelope improvements included adding an elevator to provide ADA access to the second floor, a new stairwell, a double-height gallery, and an adjacent outdoor terrace on the second level. The building is equipped with a sprinkler system and upgraded MEP systems.
