With a focus on STEM majors, the new LEED Silver Swenson Science Center is located at the heart of California Lutheran Universities’ main campus in Thousand Oaks. Standing at 52.6″ above finished grade, the new Center debuts a 47,000 SF three-story structural steel-framed building with a stucco finish and brick tile veneer accents.
The Center provides an open and modern design for teaching, research, and collaborative meeting spaces. The programming includes eleven teaching laboratories and eight faculty research laboratories for chemistry, biology, and science.
Classrooms are thoughtfully designed to allow for the rearrangement of furniture and equipment, providing flexible teaching and learning spaces. Twenty-four faculty offices and two lab technician offices are interspersed throughout the building allowing for daily interaction between students and faculty.
Unique to the education environment, the university incorporated a community gallery environment where students could showcase their work during the project’s design.
