Discovery Canyon Campus Field House

Part of Academy District 20 (ASD20) offering unsurpassed site-based education to over 26,000 students, Discovery Canyon Campus (DCC) is a unique pre-K through 12th-grade campus that drives students to pursue passions and make personal connections. That mission extends through their athletic offerings. DCC views athletics as an opportunity to teach students life skills that can’t necessarily be learned in the classroom: hard work is necessary, being a teammate is valuable, and leading is a privilege.

W.E. O’Neil worked with ASD20 to build a new field house with a synthetic turf floor that houses batting cages and space for indoor sports practices. The new 18,000 SF pre-engineered metal building provides DCC students a place to play and practice year-round. The field house is heated to accommodate indoor sports practices on the coldest days of the year.

A first of its kind in Colorado Springs for a public school, the field house has continuous six-foot high wall padding around the interior of the building with sports netting along the walls and ceilings. In addition to the 33 cylindrical skylights atop the roof, numerous overhead garage doors provide natural light and also fresh air.
