Continuing a long-standing partnership, W.E. O’Neil collaborated with Nordstrom and CallisonRTKL to build a new two-story full-line department store in…
Nordstrom
As part of W.E. O’Neil’s long-standing relationship with Nordstrom, we built their 271,000 SF flagship store in Chicago’s Magnificent Mile shopping district in 2000, and returned in 2014 and 2015 to completely renovate the store. Since then, W.E. O’Neil has also remodeled several departments, as well as multiple high-end vendor shops on the store’s first floor.
During the original construction of the four-level store, W.E. O’Neil installed a perimeter earth retention system to protect the businesses immediately adjacent to the site. The building’s structure is comprised of structural steel with architectural precast concrete. A multi-level underground parking structure and one level of mixed-use retail/hospitality space was also included in the project scope.
Renovations to the operating store over the last decade included extensive phasing and logistics planning, as well as coordination with Nordstrom’s store operations team to minimize disruptions to their customers’ shopping experience. W.E. O’Neil self-performed portions of the concrete and carpentry scopes of work at the site to control the schedule and ensure a high level of quality during renovations.
