W.E. O’Neil is a team member on the Concrete Collective joint venture, the group selected to provide structural concrete services for the construction of the 487,000 SF Obama Presidential Center. The construction manager for the project is Lakeside Alliance, and the project overall is being implemented and overseen by the Obama Foundation.
We are partnered with two diverse firms, II in One Contractors and Trice Construction Company, to form a 51% minority-led joint-venture team, Concrete Collective. We are committed to maximizing diverse hiring on the project and have already engaged numerous workforce development and community organizations in Chicago, including:
The scope of our services for the project involves structural concrete for the center’s main museum tower, forum building and plaza, library, and parking garage. Additional components outside Concrete Collective’s scope, but that add to the community-based nature of the project, include a park and activity center, a women’s garden, a children’s play area, and a great lawn.
When complete, the Obama Presidential Center will be a world-class landmark of the South Side and the greater Chicago community. In celebrating our nation’s first African American President and First Lady, the center is designed to be a destination for civic engagement and grassroots community activism for generations to come.
