W.E. O’Neil renovated Chicago’s historic Carbon & Carbide building downtown Chicago from a pre-existing hotel into a new 365-key boutique hotel. The project included new paint, floors, and installation of new high-end FF&E throughout the hotel rooms, as well as the buildout of a new lobby, bar and restaurant with a turn-key design-build kitchen on the first floor. MEP systems for the restaurant, lobby and bar were also replaced.
Design and construction of the project were completed concurrently on a fast-tracked four-month schedule, with a significant focus on the intricate millwork features throughout the building. To this end, W.E. O’Neil worked with the design team and owner to sketch viable options for addition cost savings on millwork items that were still in the design phase as construction was beginning.
