As a top school, industry-leading Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television has increased its offering with a new four-story academic building that complements the university’s existing campus palette. The striking design by world-renowned architecture firm SOM offers flexible classroom spaces where students can learn and exercise their abilities in film production, directing, and the motion picture arts.
The new space consists of student and faculty offices, a motion capture studio, a camera-directing studio, a dozen flexible all-purpose classrooms, and teaching labs.
Due to SFTV’s unique programmatic needs, a select set of classrooms are designed without any source of natural lighting, allowing for a controlled environment for visual displays and editing. The design incorporates state-of-the-art acoustics, which facilitates the requirements for sound capture and production spaces.
Prominently located at the entrance of the main building is an 86-seat 4k projection theater clad in semi-reflective metal panels and featuring an exclusive roof garden breakout space for the SFTV students and faculty.
