Design-Build
Located at the historic Mission San Luis Rey, which was founded in 1798, The Hacienda features an articulated one-, two-, and a three-story building with 213 senior living units. Of these, 103 units are for independent living, 86 units are for assisted living, and 24 units are for memory care and Alzheimer’s residents.
Designed in the Mission Revival style of architecture, The Hacienda blends with the adjacent Old Mission San Luis Rey featuring traditional Mission-style stucco with red Mission-style tile roofing. The site emulates the Mission Revival style architecture with all the imagery of plazas, arcades, and water features.
The building’s central core provides several resident amenities, including a main kitchen that serves the assisted living and independent living dining rooms. Each neighborhood includes access to views of landscaped courtyards with water features. The property’s exterior offers the residents beautifully landscaped areas, a walking path, fountains, and a putting green.
Prior to the start of this project, liquefaction was occurring at the site. W.E. O’Neil was able to solve this problem with an innovative solution called deep soil mixing, which in turn awarded us this project. The team mixed concrete with existing soil from the site to form hundreds of bearing piers deep below ground to save 4-6 weeks of strenuous work on the foundation. You can learn more about this solution here.
W.E. O’Neil provided design-build services for this privately funded residential care facility for the elderly.
